Windsurfing: Point Clear Wind Direction: WSW Wind Stength: F3/4 Surf / Sea State: flat / swell Air Temperature: warm Sea Temperature: warm Weather: sunny cloudy Max Speed: 23.67 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 15.3nm (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
The forecast of F5 never turned up at Point Clear today unfortunately. a
few Felixstowe wahoo's made the trip, Mark S Squiz Neil Pete , Mike G along
with Simon Chip', Keith F and a few others. I arrive late 11.30 and the
others had just gone out again, the wind about F3/4. Looked OK with Swainey
still deciding which sail to rig.
I tried 8.5 Goya Mark pro / Bolt 135 and did have a couple of nice runs,
but a lot of wallowing. The pond was dead, although a few were trying their
luck in it. The early boys had a bit more wind I think. Simon C was on a
foil going OK in the pond.
Stayed outside in the sea and had to either pump up on the plane or use the
swell to keep going. It was hard work.
Switched to my 145 Patrik freeride which faired a bit better and had a few
runs down to Brightlingsea . Squiz went up the river, but I stayed out as
the wind was too light for me. Played with Neil and Swainey. Neil switched
to his mini formula and planed a lot.
Sailed down to the sanctuary at the Clacton end and all the way to
Brightlingsea so nice runs, when the wind stayed and you caught the
gusts.
The Patrik is not going to be my light wind option as it struggled in a F3
with 8.5. Normally I would av used my 9.2 Phantom, but was too lazy to rig
it as it was now high tide. Def need a slightly wider dedicated light wind
board probably a 92cm, then switch to 135 Bolt.
More kit tweaking over the winter I think, but it was a good day. Speed was
poor, but it was a great 3 hours work out - burning 2266 calories with
heart rate peaking at 152, so did get a bit excited.
Now using 52cm fin on the Patrik 145 and 50cm on the 135 Bolt in
Lightwinds. It has made a difference staying upwind and if you pump the
boards react. Once on the plane, both boards stayed on it longer so good
investments.
